How Friction Weld Strapping Tools Work
Friction weld strapping tools tension the strap around the load before sealing it using friction welding. The strap ends are fused together without the need for metal seals, creating a strong and consistent joint suitable for transport and storage.
Battery powered operation allows these tools to be used away from fixed workstations, making them well suited to pallet strapping, oversized loads or strapping in areas where cartons or pallets cannot be easily moved.
Strap Compatibility
Friction weld strapping tools are designed for use with hand polypropylene (PP) and polyester (PET) strapping. PET strapping is commonly used for heavier palletised loads where higher tension and strength are required, while PP strapping is used for lighter applications.
Strap width and thickness must match the tool specification to ensure reliable tensioning and sealing.
Typical Applications
Friction weld strapping tools are commonly used for:
- Pallet strapping
- Irregular or oversized loads
- Loads strapped away from a packing line
- Applications where mobility and flexibility are required
They are often chosen where cartons or pallets vary in size or where strapping is carried out in multiple locations.
Differences Between Friction Weld Models
Friction weld strapping tools within this range differ primarily by strap width compatibility and duty level. All models are designed for use with polypropylene (PP) and polyester (PET) strapping.
Tools are available for 12mm, 16mm or 19mm strapping, with the strap width selected based on the load being secured and the strength required.
Within each strap width category, models are available in different duty levels. RXT tools are designed for heavier duty use and are typically recommended where tools are used more intensively throughout the day or for more demanding applications. ZXT tools are suited to lighter duty use and lower daily strapping volumes, while operating in the same way and using the same friction weld sealing method.
Consumables and Support
Consumables, spare parts and accessories are available to support ongoing use. If you are unsure which friction weld strapping tool is suitable for your application, our team can advise based on how and where the tool will be used.
