4 Essential Tips for a Stress-Free Move

Moving office or house can be a stressful task that requires a lot of planning and organization. Whether you’re relocating down the street or across the country, it’s important to start preparing well in advance to ensure a smooth and efficient move. In this article, we’ve compiled a list of expert tips and tricks to help you navigate the moving process and make it as stress-free as possible. From organizing your dates to packing your belongings and choosing the right packaging, we’ve got you covered with all the essential information you need for a successful move.

1. Organise your dates

More often than not, we know of the move months before it actually happens. It’s important to ensure this time isn’t wasted, and you get your ‘moving brain’ into action! This will undoubtedly relieve stress as the day moves closer, alongside making the entire process a lot easier as the moving date edges closer.

Once you have established how much time you have to move your items from A to B, we’d recommend you start organising your belongings.

2. Organising your belongings

Typically we’d recommend packing your items by room for a house move or packing by category for a bedroom or office move.

You will likely find items which you don’t even remember you had! These items and things which aren’t used very often are the ones we’d recommend packing first. Arranging your belongings systematically will also ensure the unpacking process goes as smoothly as possible and that your items are easy to locate at the other side.

3. Pick your Packaging

As well as excelling in the packaging sector, we’d say we are pretty good at knowing what’s required for a move. To take the stressing out of guessing, We offer a wide variety of Home Removal Kits, available in different pack sizes, depending on the size of the property. Included in these are the essential supplies which are needed to ensure a safe and fuss-free move.

All of our moving kits contain:

  • Double Wall Cardboard Boxes – for sturdy storage and transit!
  • Bubble Wrap – for those fragile or sentimental items
  • Packing Tape – to ensure your items don’t go adrift
  • Marker Pen – so you aren’t left guessing what items you put in each box!

Cardboard boxes are a pretty simple concept, admittedly one which is extremely useful! They have reigned as a packaging favourite since its invention in 1817, and it’s easy to see why.

All of our cardboard boxes in our moving kit are Double Wall. In layman’s terms, this simply means there’s two layers of fluted cardboard, sandwiched between three paper sheets. The extra layer of corrugated cardboard means the box is both robust and sturdy; making it suitable for packing heavier items, or for extra protection from the elements.

To ensure the safe packaging, transportation or storage of your goods, we’d always recommend a double wall box for items such as documents, vinyls and crockery. Due to their rigid structure, they’re also suitable for stacking in the back of a van or storage unit.

Single Wall boxes can also be useful for a move, but are much less commonly used. We do have a wide variety of Single Wall Cardboard Boxes available for purchase separately, should you wish to pack any lighter, robust items which aren’t going to be at the bottom of your stack of boxes!

All of the aforementioned items are also sold separately, so if you’ve got an abundance of fragile items, you may want to consider adding an extra bubble wrap roll to your basket. We’ve got a wide selection of different rolls with both large and small bubbles, so we can be sure you will find something to suit your needs. Alongside an extra roll of bubble wrap, we’ve also got a high-quality Fragile Printed Packing Tapes. The printed tape acts as a two-in-one; to seal the box securely and to remind your removal team that the items inside are Fragile!

We think our Moving Kit is top-notch, and for most people, contains all that is needed for a move. One size never fits all, so we’ve also got an array of other products which you may find useful. Sadly, not all items will have a bespoke-sized box to fit each item into. It’s pivotal to make the most of your boxes, but it’s also equally important to ensure that they aren’t overfilled. Our Double Wall 18” x 12” x 12” Cardboard Boxes (included in the moving kit) are an excellent choice for any heavy or precious items. Their medium size ensures they won’t be overfilled, but you’d be surprised how much you can actually fit in them.

If you’ve got space to spare, or have an exceptionally heavy item and don’t want to overload the box, why not check out our range of protective packaging? As a staple for most packaging ventures, we’ve got many excellent way to fill any gaps or voids in a box and ensure the items you’ve placed in the box don’t bounce around. If you’re running out of space in the box, Corrugated Cardboard Rolls are our go-to for protecting items from scrapes or scuffs and take up very minimal space when packing.

4. Pack up!

Now you’ve got your packaging down, it’s now time to actually start the packing process! This can be a stressful or sometimes nostalgic experience when you find items which you haven’t seen for a long time.

It’s easy to want to get things done as quickly as possible, but it’s important to take your time. Starting the packing process early will certainly help with this! You may find that you have more stuff than you thought. This may mean you need more packaging materials, and most definitely more time to pack.

When packaging your fragile items, a single layer of bubble wrap will often suffice, for those which are extra-precious, we’d recommend two. Remember: use Fragile packing tape to remind yourself and others of the contents!

The taping process is also important. Quite often, a small amount of tape over the top and bottom of the box just won’t hold the heavy contents which are sitting inside, regardless of how sticky the tape is. We’ve attached a diagram to show you our recommended way of taping to ensure your goods stay put.

Lastly… label! Remember the Marker Pen which was included in your kit? This is for writing on the box to ensure you don’t forget what items you’ve packed inside, but it’s also very useful for your movers to know where to take each box on arrival at your destination. Use your marker pen to write on the box; the room in which the goods are for, and a brief description of the contents (e.g. Kitchen, Plates, Documents etc.)

Once your goods are organised, packed, secured and labelled, it’s time to relax! Grab yourself a cup of tea, give yourself a pat on the back and tell yourself ‘you’ll never move again’. Until next time…

In summary, moving office or house can be a challenging task, but with the right preparation and organization, it doesn’t have to be a daunting experience. By following the tips and tricks outlined in this article, you can streamline the moving process and make it more manageable.
